Ah… Halloween. The holiday that metal heads, horror-movie buffs and the like especially rejoice in because it is the one time of year where rest of the world looks to what we do all the damn time. See world, we told you this shit is fun! To commemorate the season, Ricky Thumbs and The Other Woman have compiled a list of some of our favorite Halloween tunes. Play them or R.I.P. (cue Vincent Price laughter…).
The List:
“Bela Lugosi’s Dead,” Bauhaus The goth track to end all goth tracks is about our favorite Hollywood blood sucker. A million bands tried to record a million songs to sound just like this, but can’t compete the best. – R.T.
“Black Number One,” Type O Negative. Get over it, this is such a perfectly tongue-in-cheek Halloween song, it’s sickening. 11 minutes of total Sabbath meets Beatles meets Sisters. – R.T.
“Cosmic Monsters Inc,” White Zombie. SUCH a killer song–One of their best and sludgiest. – R.T.
“Don’t Fear The Reaper,” Blue Oyster Cult. An all-around classic, and possibly one of the best Halloween party songs ever. – R.T.
“Dragula,” Rob Zombie. They say that the Kennedys were an American dynasty, “Camelot” in the States. I’d say that title goes to the Munsters. This is still a great jam. — R.T.
“Down By The Water,” PJ Harvey. Not many topics make for creepier song lyrics than infanticide… – T.O.W.
“Halloween,” The Misfits. Let’s face it, anything by the Misfits is essential Halloween music. The same goes for anything from Samhain and Danzig. – R.T.
“Halloween,” Dead Kennedys. Sticking it to the people out there that wait all year to let their freak-flag fly for one-night-only on Halloween before crawling back “in the mold.”
